FAQ

DownQ. What is the best time of year to take a tour?

A. We have several tours running year-round, departing every Saturday, as Turkey’s mild climate makes it a great destination in any season. Since our tours primarily focus on culture and history rather than summer beach holidays, it might be a great option to travel anytime between November and March, to get the opportunity of not only the climate but also the discounted prices. Spring (April–June) and autumn (September–November) are ideal for comfortable temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer (July–August) is great for coastal tours like Gulet cruises but can be very hot.

DownQ. Are the tours suitable for solo travellers?

A. Yes, our tours are perfectly suitable for solo travellers! We welcome independent explorers who want to experience Turkey’s rich culture and history in a friendly group setting.

Important Note: Single travelers are obliged to book a single room and will have the hotel room entirely to themselves. We do not offer the option of shared rooms with other travellers for their privacy and comfort.

DownQ. What type of transportation is used during the tour?

A. We use modern, air-conditioned minibuses or coaches, depending on group size. For some tours, we also include domestic flights. Our Gulet cruises use traditional wooden sailing boats.

DownQ. How much free time is available for personal exploration?

A. Our tours are designed to help you see and experience as much as possible within the tour's duration, which can range from 5 to 19 days. Most days are filled with guided excursions to ensure you explore the key highlights included in the itinerary.

However, there are some opportunities for free time:

  • Arrival & Departure Days: The first and last days of the tour are mainly for airport transfers. Depending on your arrival and departure flight times, you may have some free time to explore on your own.
  • Evenings: After daily excursions, you’ll usually have some free time in the evenings to relax at your hotel, explore local restaurants, or take a walk.
  • Pre- & Post-Tour Accommodation: If you want more personal exploration time, you can extend your stay by adding extra nights before or after your tour. This allows you to discover more at your own pace before the tour starts or after it ends.
  • Private Tailor-Made Tours: If you prefer a more flexible itinerary with full control over your schedule, you can opt for a private, tailor-made tour. This allows you to choose how much time you spend at each location, include specific interests, and enjoy a more personalized experience in Turkey.

Our tours are designed to offer a perfect balance between structured sightseeing and personal exploration, ensuring you make the most of your time in Turkey!

DownQ. What currency should I bring, and are credit cards widely accepted?

A. The currency in Turkey is the Turkish Lira (TRY). Credit cards are widely accepted in cities and tourist areas, but it's good to carry some cash for small shops, markets, or rural areas. Most accepted currencies in cash are Euro and US Dollar.

DownQ. Will I need a visa to enter Turkey?

A. It depends on your nationality. Some travelers can enter visa-free, while others need an e-Visa. You can check visa requirements on the official Turkish government website (www.evisa.gov.tr).

DownQ. Can I request vegetarian or gluten-free meals?

A. Yes, we can accommodate dietary requirements. Please inform us in advance, and we will coordinate with hotels.

DownQ. Are the hotels centrally located?

A. Yes, we select boutique hotels that are centrally located or offer easy access to key sites.

DownQ. Will I have access to Wi-Fi in the hotels?

A. Most hotels provide free Wi-Fi, though speeds may vary, especially in remote areas.

DownQ. Can I upgrade my hotel accommodations?

A. For our group tours, it is not possible to change hotels as the group stays together throughout the journey. However, if you prefer a more luxurious experience, room upgrades may be possible at the designated hotel for an additional cost, subject to availability.

If you’re looking for a completely customized travel experience with upgraded hotels, we recommend our private tailor-made tours. These tours allow you to select premium accommodations that best suit your preferences and travel style.

Feel free to contact us for more details on private tour options or room upgrades!

DownQ. What kind of clothing should I pack for different seasons?

A. Spring & Autumn: Light layers, a jacket, and comfortable walking shoes.
Summer: Light, breathable clothing, a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Winter: Warm clothing, especially for Eastern Turkey (Kars, Van, etc.), where temperatures drop significantly.

DownQ. How much walking is involved in the tour?

A. Our tours include moderate walking, especially in historic sites like Ephesus and Cappadocia, so comfortable shoes are essential.

DownQ. Is there a luggage limit for the tour?

A. We recommend one checked bag and one carry-on per person. For domestic flights, luggage limits may apply (usually 20-25 kg).

DownQ. Are airport transfers available if I arrive before the tour starts?

A. Yes! Most of our tours include complimentary arrival and departure airport transfers. You can check if they are included by checking the "Inclusions" section on each tour's page.

Here’s how it works:

  • Included Transfers: The standard airport transfers are complimentary and included on the first and last day of the tour itinerary.
  • Arriving Early or Departing Late? If you’d like to arrive earlier or stay longer, you can book pre-tour or post-tour accommodation with us. In this case, we can adjust your complimentary airport transfer to match your new arrival or departure date.
  • Booking Accommodation Elsewhere? If you choose to stay at a different hotel that is not booked through us, you will need to book the airport transfers optionally, as our complimentary service applies only when the hotels are booked by us.
  • Optional Transfers: If the specific tour you’re interested in does not include airport transfers, you can add them optionally when booking your tour.
  • What optional activities are available, and how much do they cost?

The optional activities available for each tour can be found in the Trip Notes (Pre-departure Pack) on each tour page. This document provides detailed information about optional excursions, prices, and other useful details.

Here’s how you can access and book optional tours:

  • Before Your Trip: Once you’ve booked your tour, we will send you the Trip Notes approximately 3-4 weeks prior to departure via email.
  • During Your Tour: Optional activities can be booked directly with your guide while you are in Turkey.
  • For Istanbul Activities: Since you won’t meet your guide until the tour officially starts, it’s recommended to book optional Istanbul tours in advance. You can contact us via email or add these activities to your booking cart when reserving your tour.

We offer a variety of exciting optional activities such as hot air balloon rides in Cappadocia, Turkish night shows, Bosphorus cruises, and more. Prices vary depending on the activity and location, and you can view them on Trip Notes page.

DownQ. Can I skip certain activities if I prefer to relax?

A. Yes, you can opt out of activities and enjoy your free time. Please inform your guide a day before.

DownQ. Do I need to book optional activities in advance?

A. For most destinations, optional activities can be booked directly with your guide while you are in Turkey. Your guide will provide details about the available excursions, pricing, and scheduling during your tour.

However, for optional tours in Istanbul, we highly recommend booking in advance because you won’t meet your guide until the official tour departure date. If you’re interested in additional experiences in Istanbul, such as a Bosphorus cruise, Whirling Dervishes show, or guided museum tours, you can:

  • Contact us via email to secure your spot.
  • Add the optional activities to your booking cart while reserving your tour.

By booking in advance, you ensure availability, especially during peak seasons when popular activities may sell out. If you have any special requests, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to help!

DownQ. Are there dress codes for visiting religious sites?

A. Yes, when visiting mosques, both men and women should dress modestly. Women should cover their shoulders and knees, and men should avoid shorts above the knee.

Q. Is tipping expected in Turkey, and how much should I tip?

A. Tipping is customary but not mandatory. Further information can be found on the Trip Notes (Pre-Departure Pack) available on the page of each other. It’ll also be sent with your vouchers 3-4 weeks prior to your departure date.

DownQ. Will we have the opportunity to try local food specialties?

A. Yes! Our tours include authentic Turkish meals, and we recommend trying dishes like kebabs, mezes, and baklava.

DownQ. Will there be opportunities to shop for souvenirs?

A. Yes! You can shop for carpets, ceramics, spices, and local crafts in Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, Cappadocia’s pottery workshops, and other stops.

DownQ. Is the tap water safe to drink in Turkey?

A. Bottled water is recommended.

DownQ. Do I need travel insurance for the tour?

A. Yes, we strongly recommend travel insurance covering medical emergencies, trip cancellations, and lost luggage.

DownQ. Are there any vaccinations required or recommended for Turkey?

A. No mandatory vaccinations, but routine vaccines (Hepatitis A, B, and Typhoid) are recommended.

DownQ. What should I do in case of a medical emergency during the tour?

A. Your guide will assist you in case of an emergency. Turkey has modern hospitals in major cities, and travel insurance can cover medical expenses.

DownQ. Will I have access to mobile data and SIM cards?

A. Yes, Turkish SIM cards (Turkcell, Vodafone, Türk Telekom) are available at the airport or city stores. eSIMs are also an option.

DownQ. Will my phone work in Turkey, or should I get a local SIM card?

A. Check with your provider for roaming options. A local SIM or e-SIM is a more affordable choice for long stays.

DownQ. Will there be charging outlets available on the bus?

A. Some of our buses have charging outlets, but we recommend bringing a power bank.
